It's September, meaning it's the time of year where Apple announce their latest products!

This year's event took place on Tuesday 14th September and like previous Apple Events was a virtual event broadcasting from Apple Park in Cupertino, California.

Let's get right into what was announced!

Apple Park, Cupertino, California

Apple iPad (9th Generation)

Apple CEO Tim Cook kicked off the presentation with the announcement of the latest iPad. The latest generation of iPad will come a more powerful chip, the A13 Bionic which provides 20% stronger performance than the previous generation. It also features an upgraded 12 megapixel ultrawide camera and it will also be getting a storage boost with the base model coming with 64GB. 

The latest iPad will start at £319 and comes in 2 colours, Space Gray and Silver. 

Apple iPad Mini 6

The iPad Mini is Apple's smallest tablet, however this device still packs a punch with the latest Apple A15 Bionic chip resulting in a huge 80% more performance than the previous model! Apple has also added a USB-C port to this latest model. The iPad Mini 6 also now features an all-screen design with a Touch ID fingerprint scanner in the top button. The new display features Liquid Retina Display technology and a resolution of 2266 x 1488 and a peak brightness of 500 nits. Cellular models will now also support 5G connectivity. There is a new 12MP Wide rear camera with an ƒ/1.8 aperture and the front-facing camera also gets a major upgrade, with a 12MP Ultra Wide camera, featuring Centre Stage for video calls. The iPad Mini 6 will also now support the second-generation Apple Pencil, which magnetically attaches to the side for storage, pairing, and charging. It also features the same all-day battery life as other iPads, lasting up to around 10 hours.

The iPad mini comes in three new colours, including Pink, Starlight, Purple, in addition to Space Gray from the previous generation and is available to pre-order now and starts at £479 for a 64GB Wi-Fi only model. Cellular models start at £619.

Apple Watch Series 7

Apple also unveiled a new Apple Watch model with a bunch of new features including new safety features such as being able to detect if the wearer falls whilst riding a bike. The promo video also showed the Series 7 tracking the speed of a tennis ball and the distance of a golf swing. The Series 7 also features a larger display with 20% more screen area than the Series 6 and 50% more screen area than the Series 3. The borders of the screen area are also 40% thinner than the Series 6. The shape has also changed slightly with more refined softer and rounder edges. The battery also charges 33% faster than the Series 6. Apple is also doing it's bit for the environment by announcing the Series 7 will be made with 100% recycled metal.

The Apple Watch Series 7 will start at $399 (around £379).

Apple iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini

And finally, the product you've probably been waiting for, the latest iPhone. Apple announced the successor to the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini, with the new iPhone 13 and 13 Mini both featuring a nearly identical design to the previous model featuring flat edges, an aerospace-grade aluminium enclosure, a glass back, and a slight increase in thickness (7.65mm).

Both of the models feature a Super Retina XDR Displays that are 28% brighter than the previous model, the iPhone 13 Mini has has a 2340x1080 resolution with 476 pixels per inch, while the iPhone 13 has a 2532x1170 resolution with 460 pixels per inch. Both iPhones feature 1200 nits max brightness for HDR, along with True Tone to match the colour temperature of the display to the ambient light, Wide Colour for rich, vivid hues, and Haptic Touch for feedback. 

The front-facing True Depth camera system has been updated and the Face ID notch is now smaller. Like the iPhone 12, the new model also features a Ceramic Shield cover glass that is infused with nano-ceramic crystals for better protection from drops. 

The iPhone 13 is also IP68 water and dust resistance and can be submersed in 6 metres of water for up to 30 minutes.

The new model is powered by an upgraded A15 Bionic Chip which features a 6-core CPU cores and 4 efficiency cores, a 4-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine.

There's also an update to the camera with a new diagonal dual-lens rear camera with 12 megapixel Wide and Ultra-Wide cameras. The Wide camera features an improved f/1.6 aperture that lets in 47 percent more light and Sensor-Shift Stabilization, while the Ultra Wide camera features an improved f/2.4 aperture for improved low light performance.

The iPhone 13 and 13 mini also support WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0, plus they include a U1 Ultra Wideband chip for spatial awareness and is also 5G ready.

Battery life has improved significantly thanks to larger batteries and the more efficient A15 chip. The iPhone 13 mini offers up to 1.5 hours more battery life than the iPhone 12 mini, and the iPhone 13 offers up to 2.5 hours more battery life than the iPhone 12.

The base models features 128GB of storage with the option to upgrade to up to 512GB of Storage.

The iPhone 13 models are available in Pink, Blue, Midnight (black), Starlight (silver/gold), and (PRODUCT)RED.

Prices start at £679 for the 13 Mini and £779 for the 13. The iPhone 13 launches on Friday 24th September with Pre-Orders available a week before. 

Apple iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max

Apple also announced their new flagship iPhones with the unveiling of the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.

Both the 13 Pro and the 13 Pro Max are almost identical to the previous 12 and 12 Pro models. featuring flat edges, a stainless steel frame, a textured matte glass back, and a slight increase in thickness (7.65mm).

Both of the new models feature OLED Super Retina XDR Displays that support ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates ranging from 10Hz up to 120Hz, the new displays are also up to 25% brighter outdoors.

The iPhone 13 Pro has a 2532x1170 resolution with 460 pixels per inch, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 2778x1284 resolution with 458 pixels per inch. Both iPhones feature 1200 nits max brightness for HDR, along with True Tone to match the colour temperature of the display to the ambient light, Wide Colour for rich, vivid hues, and Haptic Touch for feedback.

Like the 13 and 13 Mini, the Face ID notch is now smaller taking up less screen space and also includes the same Ceramic Shield, it is also IP68 water and dust resistance and can be submersed in 6 metres of water for up to 30 minutes.

The 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max also feature the same upgrade A15 Bionic Chip as the 13 and 13 Mini, however the Pro models do feature 1 extra GPU core than the other models. The 5-core GPU found in the Pro Models offers 50% faster graphics performance than any other smartphone chip.

There's an upgraded triple-lens rear camera with an f/2.8 Telephoto lens, an f/1.5 Wide lens, and an f/1.8 Ultra Wide lens. The Wide lens features an aperture that lets in 2.2x more light and the largest sensor in any iPhone to date, while the Ultra Wide lens lets in 92 percent more light for better low-light performance.

The 77mm Telephoto lens features 3x optical zoom in, up from 2.5x in the 12 Pro Max, and with the addition of the Ultra Wide lens, there is a 6x optical zoom range and support for 15x digital zoom. There's also a LiDAR Scanner, which is not available on the ‌iPhone 13‌ and 13 mini. Both Pro models have the same camera setups this year, with no differences between the Pro and Pro Max.

Like the 13 and 13 Mini, The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max also support WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0, plus they include a U1 Ultra Wideband chip for spatial awareness and are also 5G ready.

The iPhone 13 Pro are available in Silver, Gold, Sierra Blue, and Graphite.

Prices start at £949 for the 13 Pro and £1,049 for the 13 Pro Max. The iPhone 13 Pro launches on Friday 24th September with Pre-Orders available a week before.
